Bhopal based NGO the centre for ‘Social Animation of Marginalized, Migrants And Nomads’ called SAMMAN organized Global Waste Pickers’ Day at SVD Vidya Bhavan auditorium, E-6, Arera Colony Bhopal. Mrs. Krishna Gaur, the Mayor of Bhopal was the chief guest programme.

There were over 150 waste pickers, among them most of them are engage in door to door collection of waste in 4 Zones of Bhopal Municipal Corporation participated in the programme. Bhopal Mayor distributed uniforms to men and women engaged in door to door collection of waste. Earlier a general health check up programme was organized, 67 sick and ailing patients were provided free medicine.

Mrs. Laxmi Narayan the General Secretary of K.K.P.K.P. Pune was the main resource person, who shared her experience in organizing the waste pickers at Pune, who participate actively in solid waste management programme and keep the city clean. Fr. Prasant Lukose SVD expressed his happiness that SAMMAN is working in collaboration with Bhopal Municipal Corporation to provide work for the poor and needy and keep the city clean.  He wished all the success to SAMMAN staff as well as the Municipal authorities present.
