Na Assembleia de 19 de junho sobre as “Causas Estruturais das Crises e das Injustiças Sociais e Ambientais e das Falsas Soluções”, os movimentos sociais denunciaram e prepararam mobilizações para o dia 20 de junho, o Dia de Ação Global. Na Assembleia sobre as ”Soluções dos Povos”, a ser realizada em 21 de junho, os movimentos sociais apresentarão as suas propostas.
Catadores do Brasil e da Colombia falaram em frente milhares de pessoas participando da Assembleia Geral da Cúpula dos Povos. Silvio Ruiz, da Associacão de Catadores de Bogotá (ARB), falou que tem mais de 15 milhões de catadores. Que tem que lutar para a natureza, que os catadores são importante para o tratatmento dos resíduos, para reciclagem. Ruiz compartilhou umas palavras de ordem: “Se siente, escucha, arriba los que luchan!” Ele também denunciou a incineração, dizendo que é um perigo pois vai contra a reciclagem e contra a organização, a luta, e reconhecimento dos catadores.
Alex Cardoso, do Movimento Nacional dos Catadores (MNCR), falou que “no Brasil são mais de 80.000 que estamos organizados no movimento dos catadores. A nossa luta é pra fazer reciclagem e contra incineração. A energia que a gente quer é a partir dos orgânicos, que são mais de 67% do total de resíduos. Com a sua geração de energia, poderiamos alimentar todo o norte e nordeste do país. E isso é um golpe na construção das hidrelétricas.”

At the General Assembly of the People’s Summit, “Structural Causes of Crises, Social and Environmental Injustice, and False Solutions,” held on June 19th, social movements gathered to denounce and prepare for the mobilizations that are happening on June 20, the Day of Global Action. At the Assembly, “Solutions from the People,” which will happen tomorrow, June 21, the social movements will present their proposals.
Silvio Ruiz, with the Waste Pickers’ Association of Bogotá (ARB), said that there are more than 15 million waste pickers throughout the world. He talked about how we must fight to preserve nature, that waste pickers play a critical role in solid waste management and recycling. Ruiz also shared a slogan for the movement: “Sit, listen, those who fight must rise!”
Alex Cardoso, with the National Waste Pickers’ Movement in Brazil (MNCR), spoke about how in Brazil more than 80,000 waste pickers are organized in the movement. “Our fight is to be able to recycle and to stop incineration. We want to create energy from organic material, which constitute more than 67 percent of waste. If we generated energy from this source, we could feed the north and northeast of Brazil. And this would end the construction of hydroelectric plants.”
