On May 1st, which is celebrated world over as Labour Day and additionally as Maharashtra Day, KKPKP and SWACH invite our brothers and sisters from across the world to join us in 2 programmes.

The recently launched Pension Parishad, has planned a week long sit-in, in Delhi from the 7th to the 11th of May, to press for Pension for informal sector workers from the government. Around 100 Informal sector workers from Pune will be driving this 1400 km journey on motorbikes, starting off at 9.30 am. Please do join us in expressing solidarity with them and flagging off their journey.

SWaCH has been working since a year with PMC and other Civil Society Organisations in Pune, to create a ‘Zero Waste’ ward. This initiative includes reaching out to 100 % citizens for doorstep collection and for processing the waste within the ward completely, thus minimising the need for any ‘waste’ to reach the landfill. Based on the success of this initiative the ruling party that has recently been elected to power after the municipal elections, plans to launch this initiative in 15 more wards. The formal inauguration of this programme is also on 1st May at 9.30 am. Please do join us in expressing our unequivocal support for truly decentralised initiatives like this.
