Waste pickers at the People’s March, Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro – June 20, 2012.

Waste pickers from the National Movement (MNCR), Uruguay, Colombia, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and India, marched together with thousands of social movements from around the world yesterday, June 20, at the People’s March.

The social movements are together demanding social and environmental justice and the defense of common good, and fighting against the commodification of life. “We are defending nature in Brazil!” was one of the messages the waste pickers chanted to the world yesterday.
