WIEGO and the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Waste Pickers (RedLacre) will denounce in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the situation of the rights of waste pickers in Latin America, in the framework of the hearing entitled: Labor Rights of Informal Sector Workers in the Americas PS 187-648. It will take place today Wednesday 12 of July, 15:45 Lima-Bogotá time. It will be broadcasted on the IACHR’s Youtube and Facebook channels.

This is the first time that the situation of Waste pickers rights violations is made visible, and actions are requested to the most important human rights monitoring body in the continent. Although the presentation time is short, the content of the complaints is the result of more than 5 years of registration, documentation and analysis of different cases of rights violations in many Latin American countries. This process has been carried out by WIEGO’s Human Rights & Waste Pickers Project with the support of (RedLacre) .
