John Chway

I have worked as a waste picker from childhood 13 years old.

My biggest dream is to see a world where waste pickers live dignified lives and are not treated as less human.

It means a lot having a platform where my mouth would tell the stories and concerns of thousands of my comrades, it means a lot more to my comrades.

We take everything discarded as waste and those no one wants in their backyard most of which affect our health immensely but still good enough for our at least a meal a day to keep us alive, we are humans too and our rights and representation has waited for far too long, help us make a difference.

John Chway is part of the Kisumu Waste Pickers Welfare Association.
